Crystal Melchor

Dayton Ambassador

Crystal has been an educator working with children in grades K-12 for over thirty years.  Prior to that profession, she proudly served in the Air Force for 5 years. However, she also married a career military man and the two traveled around the US, Europe, and even the territory of Guam for years with their two now grown children. Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio was their last military base prior to retiring and homesteading there. Crystal is a member of the Wilberforce Chapter of the Moles, a longstanding African American Women's organization with thirty-two chapters in sixteen states and the District of Columbia. For the last eight years, she has held several positions in the organization including President.  Crystal is also a member of the last standing African American American Legion Post in the area. At Post 776, she has held positions of leadership.  Of late, when not working or spending time with family and friends, Crystal finds great joy in learning and discovering the beauty of her heritage and educating herself on true Black History.  It was this quest that led her to Brown Skin Bruchin' after hearing the founders on the Lurie Daniel Favors show!

“You’re not to be so blind with patriotism that you can’t face reality. Wrong is wrong, no matter who does it or says it.” —Malcolm X
